bobweir-bluemountain Bob Weir
Blue Mountain

Before he co-founded the Grateful Dead, Bob Weir spent a summer working and living on a ranch in Wyoming, sparking a lifelong fascination with the stories and songs of the American West. Blue Mountain, Weir’s first solo album in over 10 years, brings his musical journey full circle as a moody, highly textured modern interpretation of Weir’s unforgettable experience.

timbuckley-ladygivemeyourkey Tim Buckley
Lady, Give Me Your Key

Recorded in 1967, Goodbye & Hello was the first major triumph for singer-songwriter Tim Buckley as an album artist, partially because there were a remarkable amount of pre-production demos that led to it. Now available for the first time are these newly discovered master tapes, recorded by Goodbye & Hello’s producer Jerry Yester, along with an ultra-rare acetate, found to be in co-songwriter (and best friend) Larry Beckett’s possession.

stewartlindsey-spitballin Stewart Lindsey
Spitballin’

Dave Stewart’s new personal project partners him with a one-of-a-kind young male singer, Thomas Lindsey, from just outside of the small town of DeRidder, Louisiana. Stewart says Lindsey is “one of the freshest new vocal discoveries in the last twenty years.” Spitballin’ is an eclectic mix of Gospel, Blues, Country and Rock, and was recorded between Los Angeles and Louisiana. The duo, who were completely isolated from one another, never recorded together in the same room, using the power of the internet to collaborate on the project.

stpaulandthebrokenbones-seaofnoise St. Paul and The Broken Bones
Sea of Noise

Birmingham, Alabama’s electrifying rock & soul octet St. Paul and The Broken Bones returned this September with their sophomore album Sea Of Noise. The new album features the heart pounding infusion of old school R&B, soul, funk and rock that the group has built its reputation on. Sea Of Noise documents a band going through an artistic evolution, and many of the new songs are tied together by a common theme that serves as an overall commentary on society.

mlockwoodporter-howtodreamagain M. Lockwood Porter
How to Dream Again

The Berkeley, California-based singer-songwriter M. Lockwood Porter is part of a promising crop of up-and-coming Americana singer-songwriters. “I get called an Americana singer, and I get why. But it’s a narrow label. I still have this punk rock point of view that whenever I’m around a bunch of people that are doing something similar, makes me want to take a left turn.” How To Dream Again is one of those left turns. At its core, the album is a very personal statement from a thoughtful, daring young artist. “The album is called How To Dream Again because it’s about trying to change my priorities – from chasing dreams of individual success to dreaming about creating something bigger than myself, whether that’s being in love or building a better world.”

chathamcountyline-autumn Chatham County Line
Autumn

There’s no dramatic tale or sexy hook to fuel the hype machine for Autumn, the seventh studio album since the Raleigh, NC-based Chatham County Line coalesced in the late 1990’s. The story behind the workmanlike group’s newest release is simple: A veteran ensemble at the top of its game sticking to its considerable strengths – poignant songwriting and inventive acoustic arrangements that draw upon a broad array of American roots influences, highlighted by trademark three- and four-part harmonies that shine throughout.

elaynaboynton-elayna Elayna Boynton
Elayna

An air of mystery surrounds Elayna Boynton, whose voice remains a hauntingly familiar memory to all those who’ve encountered it. Boynton delivered a musical knockout punch in 2012 on the soundtrack of Tarantino’s Django Unchained with her original song “Freedom.” Her debut EP is an ecstatic, intoxicating mélange of literary refinement and primal energy, seamlessly incorporating elements of blues, soul, gospel, folk and rock & roll.

theshelters-theshelters The Shelters
The Shelters

The Shelters’ self-titled debut LP is a blast of Southern Californian rock and roll from a four-piece like they used to make them, when the factory was still up and running. The group had just banded together when album co-producer Tom Petty gave them the keys to his home studio. They seized the moment and got to work, insistent on becoming a band. A real band. Led by the songs, harmonies and twin-guitar sound of Chase Simpson and Josh Jove, and powered by drummer Sebastian Harris’s groove obsession, the band has put together a collection of recordings that have an immediacy, an emotion, and a musical intelligence that suggests these boys are beyond their years.

sessionamericana-greatshakes Session Americana
Great Shakes

Great Shakes, the new album from Session Americana with Jefferson Hamer, makes a bold statement for the Boston-area collective that has been playing together since 2003. Whereas previous albums have harnessed the sprawling familial energy of the group, Great Shakes is a focused reflection of a six-piece version of the band that has been playing together sporadically for the past few years.

gabriellelouise-ifthestaticclears Gabrielle Louise
If The Static Clears

Gabrielle Louise is an intrepid artist and a fearless performer who is as eccentric as she is charismatic. If the Static Clears is as dauntlessly artistic as her previous works and even more refined. Though it was created with the same spirit and essence as any of her other endeavors, it is by far the most accessible yet creatively bold collection of songs to date, promising to be a cornerstone of Gabrielle’s career.

liamgerner-landofnoroads Liam Gerner
Land Of No Roads

South Australian born and bred Liam Gerner left his life in the Adelaide Hills and headed to London, where he soon found himself touring Europe opening for Paul Weller, Jason Isbell, Alanis Morissette, Paolo Nutini, Elton John, Robbie Fulks and the Drive-By Truckers. He was invited to the United States by grammy winner Ryan Bingham, and in a cabin in California, Gerner worked on songs for his newest album. “Several of the songs on Land Of No Roads are true stories that I found while touring. Stories which resonated with me.”

southerncultureontheskids-theelectricpinecones Southern Culture On The Skids
The Electric Pinecones

“The Pinecones was our folk-a-billy garage band alter ego,” singer-guitarist Rick Miller explains. “In the late ’80s and early ’90s, we would occasionally open up for ourselves as The Pinecones. What we played was not your typical SCOTS fare; more ’60s west coast psych, folk and country. Those old set lists became the starting point for this record.” Song for song, on The Electric Pinecones, Southern Culture On The Skids continues to blow minds and blur the lines between genres delivering a stellar album.

amoslee-spirit Amos Lee
Spirit

Spirit’s 13 songs reflect both Amos Lee’s musical journey over the past few years and his expansive sonic palette. Most notably, this is the first time the critically acclaimed Philadelphia singer and songwriter has acted as his own producer. Informed by everything from his performances alongside some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras to a personal taste that spans Robert Glasper, Schoolboy Q, and Drake, this body of work boasts an aural anatomy all its own.

owenplant-iwasonthemoon Owen Plant
I Was On The Moon

Based on Saint Simons Island, GA, Jamaican-Born, singer-songwriter Owen Plant’s style is reminiscent of introspective artists from the ’70s, old-time reggae groups and contemporary acoustic artists. His latest LP, I Was on the Moon, is his most ambitious in scope. Funded by a small group of supporters, he had the resources to team up again with songwriter/composer Christopher Tyng to produce his best sounding album yet.
